Ride your bike to work day
I'm not opposed to people riding their bikes to work in general. It's a good thing. Kudos, bike riders. What pisses me off is having this special day where you get a free breakfast for riding your bike to work ONCE A YEAR.
You can drive your fuel-guzzling monster truck to work every other day of the year and that's fine so long as you ride your bike in for one day. What about people who catch public transport every day? What about people who walk? No day for them. No free breakfast. No being a big hero for riding your bike.
Anyway, I feel vindicated now because our ride your bike to work day has been cancel due to bad weather (although if you really cared, you'd still ride your bike).
I rode my bike to work today and I didn't know it was ride your bike to work day! I am not quite sure that encouraging everyone to get PT to work is a good idea- Metro would grind to a halt if 10 more people tried to squeeze onto a train. Sara
ReplyDeleteYou rode your bike to work today~ you are a freaken hero. I bitched and moaned enough about walking to the bus stop in that rain.
DeleteTrue about the trains, although if everyone around here bussed to the station instead of driving, we might get a half decent bus service... maybe.
I ride my bike to work every day. I want a free breakfast! I'd also like to not take my life in my hands when drivers with huge SUVs barrel down the tiny side streets...
ReplyDeleteI think it's even worse here than Japan although we do have a nice network of bike paths.
DeleteSuperficial....
ReplyDeleteAustralia working it's own social eco tatemae I see. I was thinking all the fake plastic people and their bullshit meaningless crap were exclusive to America and Japan.
Anywhere in the world where you have a group of people, I reckon that goes on. Japan seems to glorify it more than elsewhere though.
DeleteI guess people don't really care to do something unless they get something out of it?
ReplyDeleteI have been walking to work this whole month with the exception of 2 days and I love it. I get some air, my hubs meets me half way home with the dogs and I am saving the plant (kind of).
Speaking of peeves I am probably gonna go on a rant about "swag" and it's use. I think I am getting old cause it's a cool word but it's used so stupidly... more on that later :p
Maybe the aim is to get a few people to realise it's easier to ride to work than they think, who knows.
DeleteI hate that stupid save the planet propaganda. Most of the big issues they lobby against aren't even issues we can solve. I live in an area where it literally is impossible to ride to work every day. They are doing construction over every freeway overpass so there is no safe way to cross there and people don't look at people cycling and hit them all the time. I'll stay safe driving to work. Though on an unrelated note, I might be riding the bus to work next week.
