Australia Day

Happy Australia Day!  The day we celebrate invading this country and stealing it off the Aboriginals.  I was going to write a brief history of Australia but then I thought, screw that.  If you really wanted to know, you'd look it up on wikipedia.  Also between the whities coming here, that we learnt about every single bloody year in school to around the 1970s, I know pretty much bugger all.  I do knew there were some explorers who went off exploring and most of them got lost and died, ergo we still don't know what is in much of Australia.

I know jackshit however about Federation or Australian Prime Ministers pre-Gough or anything.

Anyway, it means I have a long weekend.  Since I've been pretty much shagged with all the working this week, that is a mighty fine thing.

To celebrate, I think I should do something really Australian.  Not sure what yet.

  1. Have a nice 3 day weekend! Those are always nice to have, I usually drink or bbq on 3 day weekends. What do Aussies do on long weekends?

  3. Eat a meat pie, say 'streuth that was a ripper pie', if you see a cockroach say 'crikies a cocky' and whack it with your thongs. That should do it.

When I went to TAFE with my daughter we studied Australian Studies for a year and learned about the pioneers all over again only with a totally different perspective. It was actually really interesting. Here's some useless info - Burke & Wills, who tried to cross the centre of Australia actually took along a bathtub with them. That got ditched pretty quickly. And the main reason why they died on their treck was because, when the aborigines came to greet them and show them how to survive the desert they got shot at so they quickly departed and left Burke & Wills to figure it out for themselves. They didn't, obviously.

    1. I knew the bit about them not letting the aboriginals help them. Dickheads. Also, they were gay for each other, you can't tell me otherwise.

  4. Happy Australia Day to you too. A 3 day weekend is always fun, it's just that Sunday night "I don't have to work tomorrow" feeling. Are there parades and things?

You should be able to make them in Japan pretty easily, right?
